WK 2026 speelschema SN Redactie Laatst bijgewerkt op: 21 augustus, 2024 Het WK vindt plaats tussen 11 juni en 19 juli 2026. Het is een historische editie, want voor het eerst doen er 48 teams mee. Dat betekent dat het een uiterst drukke periode wordt omdat er maar liefst 104 wedstrijden worden gespeeld! Deze wedstrijden zijn verdeeld over 3 gastlanden, Canada, Mexico en de Verenigde Staten. Het WK speelschema ziet er dan ook anders uit dan je gewend bent. Het WK speelschema is uitgebreider dan ooit, met een nieuwe indeling voor de groepsfase. Op deze pagina kom je alles te weten over het speelschema van het WK 2026. De starttijden zijn al bekend en ook welke wedstrijden in welke WK speelsteden worden afgewerkt. Welke teams dit zijn is nog even afwachten. De WK kwalificatie is namelijk nog in volle gang. Nog nooit eerder deden er zoveel landen mee aan het WK voetbal. Deze teams worden verdeeld over 12 WK poules van elk 4 teams. In de groepsfase spelen alle teams één keer tegen elkaar, waarna de beste twee teams per poule doorgaan naar de knock-outfase. Daarnaast gaan de 8 beste nummers 3 ook door, samen maakt dat 32. Deze 32 teams strijden in de knock-out fase verder, te beginnen met de16ste finales, gevolgd door de achtste finales, kwartfinales, halve finales, en uiteindelijk de finale, waar de kampioen wordt gekroond. 102 – New York New Jersey Stadium Totstandkoming van het WK speelschema Met 104 wedstrijden in ruim een maand stond de FIFA voor een nieuwe uitdaging. Alle wedstrijden logisch indelen waarbij teams genoeg rust krijgen en allemaal ongeveer even veel moeten reizen. Met een aantal stelregels is de FIFA tot bovenstaande speelschema gekomen en daarbij is rekening gehouden met een aantal belangrijke aspecten. Zo moeten teams minstens 3 dagen rust hebben tussen hun wedstrijden (troostfinale uitgezonderd). Ook de reistijd was een belangrijk topic. Zo is er is in de knock-outfase van het WK gekozen voor een wedstrijdflow van de West naar de Oostkust. Op deze manier wordt de reistijd én tijdsverschil zo veel mogelijk beperkt. De finale wordt uiteindelijk gespeeld in New York, de Oostkust van de Verenigde Staten. Tot slot is er bepaald dat er maximaal 7 wedstrijden per stadion gespeeld mogen worden. Hier moet ook minstens 2 dagen tussen zitten om de kwaliteit van het veld te waarborgen. Wedstrijden opgedeeld in zones Net zoals bij het EK 2024 in Duitsland, is het WK 2026 opgedeeld in regio’s. Op deze manier kunnen de verschillende tijdszones beter meegenomen worden in het speelschema en kunnen teams en fans gestructureerd reizen. Er zijn 3 verschillende zones vastgesteld door de FIFA. Regio West, regio centraal en regio Oost.
